Winters in Berlin can be pretty grim. And as the leaves are only on the trees again from around mid April, Emona and José agreed to have their engagement shoot images taken at the Botanical Gardens in Berlin. Emona is originally from Albania and met José, from Spain, a few years ago. Below are some of the highlights of the engagement shoot and soon their wedding will be online as well!

I always really like photographing an engagement session before the wedding. There are some major benefits and it is a great investment! The couple is getting used to the photographer, you learn some posing skills and you really start becoming comfortable in front of the camera. Most people feel a little awkward as they are not used to being in front of the lens, so an engagement session really is a great way to get used to it and relax. I often hear “I don’t know how to behave in front of the camera” or “I hate being in pictures”. A shoot before the wedding will help a lot here and will show you how great you look and allows you to trust your photographer. Trust builds confidence and confidence makes for amazing photos!

It is also a great way to get to know your photographer and break the ice. How is the communication and what are the dynamics like? As you get to know each other better before the wedding, you have a great opportunity to learn from your photographer and relax and feel comfortable on your wedding day. It is also nice to get a sense of what type of photos you like. Are you playful as a couple, a little shy or super funny? Even when you are posing, my goal is to let you see that the atmosphere should feel light and unconstrained. I like to see how a couple is naturally evolving and I might give some posing tips and suggestions here and there where required.

It is of course as well as great way to document your journey as a couple. Many people use their engagement images for example for the “save the date” cards and or guestbooks. And even to announce to their friends and family they got engaged!
