For months I had been looking forward to Patricia and Ruth’s wedding. Reason is, they got married in a cave! Patricia and Ruth met in Dublin in 2005. Patricia had moved to Dublin from The Netherlands and Ruth had moved to Dublin in the same year. They kept bumping into each other as they had mutual friends, until they fell head over heels in love. In 2012 while on holiday on Gran Canaria, Ruth proposed to Patricia. They looked at wedding venues in Ireland as well as in The Netherlands, and they found this amazing location in Valkenburg, close to where Patricia is from. On the Sunday some of the Irish guests started to arrive in Valkenburg. This was a great opportunity for everyone to get to know each other. On the Monday evening, dinner was organised for all the wedding guests from Ireland and The Netherlands, at Mexican restaurant El Castillo. And on the Tuesday, the ceremony and party were held at De Feestgrot, also in Valkenburg.
The lady finished the ceremony with a gorgeous poem in the cave, which was lit by candles. This is part of the poem:
To come to an end, I would like to wish you a marriage as strong as the Dutch lion, harmonious as the tone of the Irish harp, smooth as Dutch butter, warm as Irish lamb’s wool, colourful and prospering as tulips from Amsterdam, fiery as Irish whiskey, open as the Dutch polder landscapes and as spiritual as the rhymes of Limerick.
Cupcakes were made by a cousin and there was also Limburgse vlaai (speciality pie from the area)
A friend of the couple created a “tree” for them as an original guestbook! Guests could leave their fingerprints “hanging in the tree” and take a keychain as a wedding gift.
We took the pictures in a forest area on top of the caves.
They all danced the night away in the caves! What a special and wonderful venue!
Patricia and Ruth, thank you for an amazing time in Valkenburg and spending time with you and your guests! They were fantastic days! Best wishes for the future! XOX
